Musical
The 23rd – 25th of June saw the VCC band take to the stage for the 4th annual musical fundraiser in aid of the Sunflower Fund (who aim to educate, raise awareness and recruit donors for the SA bone marrow registry).
This year, VCC joined with the talented dance crew from SCAD (the Sarah Cookney Academy of Dance) and the drama students of Fish Hoek Primary School, to produce a spectacular and world-class event. Big stage, sound, lights, screens and special effects contributed to make this a show on par with any West End musical.
The talented and versatile crew performed well known covers across a broad range of genres, themes and ages – from Van Halen’s “Jump”, Sting’s “The Shape of my Heart” to “Copacabana” and Shakira’s “Waka Waka”, the crowd were kept enthralled all night long. Ever popular MC, David Suter, once again wove his unique thread of humour through the tapestry of songs to make a most entertaining evening.
When the last dance was danced and the last song was sung, VCC managed to meet their target and a little more by raising R91336.30 for the Sunflower Fund. This has been the largest donation to date from a single source. Of course, this would not have been possible without the sponsors who gave so willingly of their time and resources to make this show a success.
In addition to ticket sales, a number of local celebrities (including Kingsley Holgate, Colin Moss and Liesel van der Westhuizen, to mention a few) agreed to auction their works of art in aid of the Sunflower Fund. Artworks were auctioned over the course of the 3 evenings. There was a great response from the crowd and this added to the overall amount raised.
The VCC band will be performing some of their show items at the V&A Waterfront on Bandana Day, 17th September. Don’t miss it.
