History
20 Years of serving the community
Valley Christian Church
(VCC) was birthed 20 years ago in the home of Pastors Mark and Dee Harris. They
were given a vision to start a family church in order to serve the community of
the Fish Hoek Valley and surrounds. The church soon outgrew their home when it then moved to various school halls in the Fish Hoek valley.
8 years ago, the top of
the OK Bazaars building on Main Road became available, which to this day is
still their base.
VCC’s vision is to one day have their own building, but as Pastor Dee is
quick to point out the building is just where the Church meets. It is not
the Church – the people are the Church. VCC is first and foremost a family
Church. This means they are dedicated to the building up and strengthening of
the family of the Body of Christ, as well as each individual family unit, no
matter what shape or size that might be. Valley Christian Church is affiliated
to Church of the Nations, an international ministry, whose mission
declaration is: Building a family of Churches – reaching the nations, and
whose vision is to plant, build and strengthen local churches with the goal
of advancing God’s Kingdom.
The Harris’s philosophy is “bring
them in, build them up, train them to, and send them out”, with members of VCC
having gone out into the broader society and into countries near and far, the
USA, Britain, Qatar, Afghanistan and Mozambique to name a few! A big part of
Pastors Mark and
Dee’s lives has been given over to nurture and raise children from all walks of
life. They have taken numerous children into their home over the past 18 years." We’ve given of our lives
so that people will come to know the generous and giving God that we serve,”
says Dee.
They are supported by Associate Pastors, Steve and Kim Brammer, who add so much to the dynamic mix of VCC.
There is an amazing youth ministry, headed by Youth Pastor Jono Holgate and his wife Lee.
VCC has no boundaries as far as
age, race or class is concerned. It paints a wonderful picture on a Sunday
morning: people from all walks of life!
VCC has numerous family
ministries for the community. They are committed to helping people with marriage
difficulties, or counselling of teenagers and guidance for new parents.
Commenting on the other churches in the valley:
“We value, respect and admire each and every church in the valley,” says Pastor
Mark. “I like to think of the various churches as flowers, each with their own
unique beauty and fragrance. And every one of them with a role to play.”
Together we all build the Kingdom of God in Fish Hoek."
